On February 26th at Buildex Vancouver 2015, Westeck Windows and Doors proudly sponsored an NAFS presentation with Al Jaugelis – Fenestration Specialist, RDH Group
The presentation covered the following areas and Al Jaugelis’ expertise on these subjects:
-The demand for endless variety in size, shape and mullion configurations for windows is strikingly at odds with the Code requirement that all windows be tested and labeled to report their performance – not at a standard size – but at the sizes and mullions spans ordered by the customer. This is where it gets messy for the manufacturer, and for the builder.
-Why? For window manufacturers it means there is no end to the testing. It means in every window order there are several, and sometimes many window configurations that have not been tested.
-The lack of testing also poses risk for builders. Untested, improperly labeled or suspiciously labeled products come under scrutiny by building officials, and a compliance problem for the manufacturer also becomes a delay problem for the builder.
The presentation addressed all the challenges and identify ways in which builders, designers and window manufacturers can work together to proactively address the challenge posed by never-tested designs, and how these can be addressed in a more thoughtful approach to selecting and detailing fenestration, one of the most creative tools in the home designer’s toolkit!
