Here are a few pictures of the Cascade Handcrafted Team working on the LateWood project for New Jersey, we are currently washing the logs and locking in the first course.
The wood has amazing shape and character. You can see how the freezing temperature pulls the moisture out of the logs, freezing weather has the same effect as a hot summer day in pulling moisture from the logs.
LateWood is the part of the wood in a growth ring of a tree that is produced later in the growing season. The cells of late wood are smaller and have thicker cell walls than those produced earlier in the season. This gives the logs a silky, shiny smooth texture.
