In the Spring of 2014, timed with the product launch of our metal clad wood window line, Westeck leadership made a decision to raise our profile and brand amongst architects, designers and builders and join the BC Wood Association. BC Wood is a not-for-profit trade association that supports BC businesses that manufacture wood products. They are a voice for the industry, bringing innovative ideas to the table and insight into how to strengthen BC’s wood culture, leading the industry by creating a culture where wood is the first choice for all types of construction and design product.
Every year, BC Wood hosts a Global Buyers Mission™. The GBM is the best business building event in Canada for wood products manufacturers interested in growing their export market opportunities – and developing new business relationships with architects, designers, developers, builders & contractors – as well as other exhibiting wood products companies from across Canada. This year, the event was held at the Whistler Conference Center from September 4th to 6th and Westeck entered the show in the manufacturing category. With Rachel designing and organizing our booth and Jeff, Darwin, and John Neels manning it for two days, we feel we exceeded expectations in demonstrating the innovation and design solutions our organization is known for.
Our technological advancements were also on display with the unveiling of our new Biometric finger print scan lock set. Guests to our booth were amazed at the style and functionality of the newest option in door hardware.
Along with the many interactions with architects and designers we had during the exhibit, we were offered the opportunity to spend 25 minutes each with 8 groups of architects Friday afternoon. Architects are required to continue their education and gain 19 credits per year. These credits are achieved through “Lunch and Learns” and any educational courses put on by groups certified for AIA/AIABC/AAA/IDCEC and also members of the IBCA/VRCA and AWMAC.
The subject we instructed on was NAFS 08, the challenges manufactures face involving NAFS 08 certification and the impact it has had on the industry and the consumer. It was an amazing opportunity to engage and focus on a small group of highly educated, experienced professionals while showing them the type of expertise and solution selling they can expect in partnering with Westeck. All in all, a very value added experience and one that will be on our annual marketing schedule for next year.
